Unit 4 Projects
Handle and Next Level Slab
I combined my next-level slab and my handle project. To do this I made a mermaid tail handle. First I made the cup. After I rolled out a slab and made the tail. I did this by cutting out the shape with the handle attached to it, and then I scored and slipped some pieces on it to create some texture. To attach the tail to the cup I scored and slipped it on. If were going to do it again I would take more time with the cup to make it smoother. I would probably just want more time with this project for every aspect because I think I could make it look better.
Lidded Box and Poem Piece
I combined my lidded box and my poem response piece. To do this I made a coffin with a lid on it. The poem I got was about red flowers and a girl dying, so I made a coffin with flowers on top of it. The hardest part about this project was either making the flowers (which don't look very good) or making the lid the right size for the box. If I did this project again I would want to find a better way to make the flowers so they look better.
Unit 5 Projects
Useful Item
For my useful item I made a small cup. My favorite part of it is the flowers that I painted on it; I really like the colors I used. If I could do something differently next time then I would spend more time making all of the sides of the cup smooth and make the top of it even.
Mask
I enjoyed making my mask. When I was making it I did not have any mess-ups which was nice, it made it less frustrating. I liked glazing it because I got to use fun and bright colors. To make the mask I used a mold to get the shape of the mask, and then I cut out separate pieces for the nose, eyes, and mouth.
Alebrijes
To make this frog I watched a YouTube video on how. First I shaped the head and the body, and then I added on the legs and the eyes. I enjoyed making this frog, and I think it turned out nicely. Some things that were difficult when making it were the legs kept falling off and I had to continue to keep scoring and slipping them back on. Another thing that was hard was the eyeballs kept falling off, and I ended up having to just paint them on, but I still think it turned out good enough.
Small Bust
I tried watching a video on how to make a small bust, but I pretty much failed. I scrapped this piece. It was not a very fun piece to make for me. If I were to do this piece again I would try and be more patient and take more time with it.
Final Project
For my final, I painted The Great Wave by Hokusai. I made a flat platter, and I am very happy with how it turned out. When I tried to make my first platter I ended up not liking it, but once I did a second try it turned out better. To put the wave on the platter I first drew it on paper, and then printed it into the clay.
