Project 1- Stamp

For my stamp I made a dragonfly. When I was thinking about what I should make for it I knew I wanted to create a animal. I thought that a dragonfly would be a good option because it is small enough to fit on the stamp. It took me a few tries to create the right shape of the stamp, but once I did that the dragonfly was easy to draw. Something I would do differently is smooth the bottom of the stamp out more so it is not rough. I would also carve the dragonfly deeper so it shows up more.

Project 2- Face Sculpture

The face sculpture was a very difficult project to make. I started out wanting to create a lion face, but when that was not working I went to a human face. It is a very difficult project to make because the features are so specific that it is hard to recreate. Next time I would start with more clay so I had more to work with. My clay was not thick enough which made it hard to sculpt. I did fire this piece, and I decided to move on after I got to this point.

Project 3- Painting a Flat Surface

This project was fun and difficult to make. It took me a long time to decide what kind of surface I should paint on, and I just ended up with a flat circle which is kind of boring. I had a fun time painting the surface. I chose to do these flowers to match something that I have painted before. Next time I would make it something that would actually be functional, like a plate. I would also smooth it out better because when I got it out of the kiln it was bumpy and the sides curved up.

Project 4- Animal Sculpture

The animal sculpture was fun to make because it gave a lot of freedom to decide what you wanted to do. I chose a butterfly because I have always liked drawing them so I thought it would be fun to sculpt. If I could do something differently next time I would add more dimension by making the wings not flat. I would have propped them up to make it look like the butterfly was flying. I also forgot to add antennas so I would add those next time.

Project 5- Pinch Pots

The Pinch Pots were fun, but difficult to make. When I was first making them it was difficult because I did not understand the exact technique to use. But as I practiced I was able to create something that I could enjoy. For my two pinch pots put together something I would do differently is I would make it bigger. The cup will not be very useful because of its size, it would be better to hold pens or something like that instead of drink out of.

Project 6- Relief Tile

The relief tile was fun to make. At first, I was not sure what to do, I had many different ideas. I decided I wanted to make a butterfly but since I had already made one as my animal sculpture, I decided to make a dragonfly. The most difficult part of this was making all of the wings the same size. If I did something differently next time I would make the dragonfly smaller.

Project 7- Slab Building with slump mold

For this project, I made a small plate with a flower design. I liked how this project turned out but I did have a few mistakes while I was making it. When I molded it to the plate I accidentally put too much clay on the sides of it so I had to break/shave it down a lot when it hardened. Another mistake was I did not score and slip the bottom of it well enough so it broke when it was first fired. But I was able to put it back on with glaze and it came out somewhat nicely.

Project 8- Slab Building with Darts + Sgraffito

For this project, I combined the slab building with darts and the sgraffito. I had a fun time with this project, I enjoyed making the sgraffito. It adds a special touch to your piece. I had to start this project over once because the darts didn't show up, so I made it again to try and make it look more distinct. If I did this project again I would try and make the handle look cooler.

Project 9- Coil Building

I tried this project twice and ended up scraping it. Every time I left class it ended up hardening too much and then I would break it so I got too frustrated and decided to move on to a different project. If I were to do it again I would try and be more patient with what I was making. I was trying to mold it onto a bowl with an detailed design but it did not work out.

Project 10- Monster

I started my monster project but I haven't been able to finish it yet.

Project 11- Final

Master Artist: Georgia O'Keeffe

Time Era: 1887- 1986, most of her work in the 1920's.

Training: She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York.

Georgia O'Keeffe became the first female to earn respect as an artist in the 1920's in New York.

I chose Georgia O'Keeffe because I liked the colors that she uses in her pieces. They are very vibrant and fun to look at.

I made a pinch pot and then scored and slipped the mountains on.

The challenge I had was making the right size of the mountains so they would be proportionate to the trees and the cup itself.

I like the colors of the glaze I used.

Glazes: Sunkissed, Cotton Tail, Grapel, Irish Luck, Moody Blue, Candy Apple, Violet, and Rosey Posey.
